DISCIPLINE POLICIES
Discipline in the 5th grade classroom has been divided into two categories....accountability and behavior.   The 5th grade teachers have adopted methods to deal with both types of discipline and have summarized them below.  This information will also be contained in the 5th grade handbook that will go home with each student.
The only exceptions to these behavior policies are if a student breaks a rule contained in the student handbook.  If the misbehavior is an offense that is included in the student handbook, the student will not be allowed a "WARNING" in the classroom.   The student will be taken immediately to the principal for further conferencing.   A student handbook will be provided to all parents at the start of the year and is provided online by clicking HERE.

Accountability Policies:

Students will be held accountable for their LEARNING on a daily basis.  Each student will have a say in developing the classroom rules for our mini-society.  These rules will be based on the idea that if everyone stays organized and is held accountable for their actions, then everyone will be more apt to succeed in keeping our classroom environment stable for learning to occur.   These rules will dictate how students will earn classroom money.   For example they could earn money for staying organized, having good behavior, turning in homework on time, getting their assignment books signed, etc....    On the other hand, students will have to pay fines using class money for not following these classroom rules.

Behavior Policies:
 Students will also be held accountable for their BEHAVIOR on a daily basis.  Misbehaviors will be handled based on the circumstances.   All students have times when they will need to be "warned" or  "reprimanded" for their behavior, so the 5th grade follows the stop light method.  Each day students will start with a GREEN card.  If a student's behavior constitutes a warning, the student will flip their card to YELLOW and owe 5 laps at recess time.   If there are any other incidents, the card will be turned to RED and the student will miss ALL of one recess and/or conference with Mr. Buescher.

R=Red            Stop and serve the consequences

Y= Yellow      Slow down/think about your behavior

G=Green         Go for good behavior!

Please note that starting the first full week of school assignment books will start coming home daily.  We will be recording your child's daily behavior in their assignment books.  This is our way of keeping parents posted on daily behavior in the classroom.  You will see the letter G, Y, or R. notated each day at the bottom of the assignment book.  Please be sure to check and initial your child's assignment book each evening.  We urge you to focus on the positive behavior, as well as discussing the negative.  Your support is greatly appreciated.
