Sturgeon R-V Students, Parents and Guardians,

Please be aware that there have been some modifications to the K-8 and 9-12 Sturgeon R-V Student Handbook and Discipline Policy.  These modifications will take affect second semester of the 2009-2010 school year.

The rules violations and their descriptions will remain the same as listed currently in the Student Handbooks.  Days of out of school suspension (with no credit given for class work during this time) will be the consequence for weapons violations, violent acts, drug/alcohol offenses, abusive language toward a student or staff member and disparaging language toward a student or staff member.   The number of out of school suspension days to be served for these offenses will be determined by the appropriate building administrator.

Saturday Detentions will no longer be a potential consequence for a rules violation.  Besides the offenses listed above, any other consequences listed in the handbook that indicates OSS or ISS (in school on Saturday) will now be listed as “Alternative Classroom Placement.”  The building level principal will assign the number of days that a student spends in Alternative Classroom Placement.  Students assigned to Alternative Classroom Placement will spend the school day(s) in an assigned room at the K-8 building, working on classroom assignments prepared by his/her teachers.  Students will receive credit for class work completed during this time.  Any removal from the Alternative Classroom Placement will result in three days of out of school suspension (with no credit given for class work during this time).  When the student returns from out of school suspension, he/she must complete their unserved time in the alternative classroom placement before returning to regular classes.

If you have any questions regarding these changes in policy, please contact the appropriate building level principal.

Sincerely,

                                                                                    Gina Mills, High School Principal

Greg Buescher, Elementary/Middle School Assistant Principal
