April 3, 2020

Dear Sturgeon R-V School District Families and Staff:

At this time, it is important that we take a moment to acknowledge the wonderful work that our community has done to support our students during this difficult time.  The challenges presented by this pandemic have caused our entire community to adjust.  We appreciate your support during this time.  Prior to our dismissal on March 17th, we sent packets home with every student.  Our teachers have worked to connect with all our students to provide support and normalcy during this period of closure.

The district was informed on March 24th that Boone County had issued a stay-at-home order through April 24th.  The school district has complied with this order, but as we reach the end to our original closure, the administration and staff have been working to plan academic resources for our students.  These solutions are designed to provide our students with the opportunity to continue their connections to the school district and their teachers.  It is important that all our students and parents realize that our intent is not to provide additional worry or angst during this already stressful time.

Our focus during this time is to review skills, build capacity for students, and reinforce skills and knowledge from this school year.  We do not intend to be punitive in our process or hurt students and families.  We will continue to evaluate our offerings and work with our families to meet their needs.

Academics

Grades K-5
Packets will be mailed to students.  These are meant to enrich and review materials that have already been covered.  Students participating in the free lunch program will have their packets included with the delivery on Monday, April 6th.

Grades 6-8
Packets will be mailed to students who do not have access to the internet.  Devices will be available to students who need one and have access to the internet.  The devices may be picked up from the Sturgeon Elementary and Middle School north parking lot on Monday, April 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Currently, teachers are reaching out to students using Zoom meetings, email, and Google Classroom.

High School
Packets will be mailed to students who do not have access to the internet.  Devices will be available to students who need one and have access to the internet.  The devices may be picked up from the Sturgeon Elementary and Middle School north parking lot on Monday, April 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Currently, teachers are reaching out to students using Zoom meetings, email, and Google Classroom.

The goal of this work is to help students stay engaged and maintain connections with their teachers.  Both packets and online platforms will contain approximately 3 weeks worth of activities.  These materials are recommended for students to maintain academic engagement but cannot harm their individual grades.  Teachers will continue to reach out to students through various means to maintain contact and provide support.

Food Services
The district is offering a seamless option which allows all children in the district (Clark and Sturgeon - in and out of town) to receive free meals.  We ask that families email foodservice@sturgeon.k12.mo.us or call 573-687-3515 to sign up for food pick up.  If you are unable to come to Sturgeon to pick up food, please communicate that to us, and we will work towards a solution.
