Dear Sturgeon R-V School District Families, Students, and Staff,
As you all are aware the COVID-19 Pandemic has forced our community into many unprecedented situations. With the most recent increase in student and staff quarantines, the administration of the Sturgeon R-V School district has determined it is appropriate for our district to transition from in-seat learning to remote learning. The administration looks at numerous metrics to determine when it is appropriate to transition to remote learning. Examples of the metrics that we measure are: the total number of cases reported and rate of infections statistics provided by the Boone County Health Department, percentage of quarantined staff and students, ability of the district to effectively provide substitute staff members to fulfill the roles of quarantined staff, and the overall health and safety of our students and staff.
The Sturgeon R-V School District will continue to operate in-seat instruction until the end of the day on Friday, November 13th. Remote instruction will begin on Tuesday, November 17th and continue through Tuesday, November 24th. There will be no remote instruction over the already scheduled Thanksgiving Break. Our intent is for students to return to in-seat classes on Tuesday, December 1st. This will allow for all students and staff currently quarantined time to complete their quarantines and return to in-seat instruction and learning.
During this closure, the school district will provide food service to all children in the district up to the age of 18 at no cost. Details about food service will be released prior to the end of the week. If you have questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Students who need Chromebooks will have the opportunity to check these out prior to dismissal on Friday, or schedule a time for pick-up next week. The district has a limited number of hotspots for families to check out; please contact your student’s building for details. The district will continue to provide free internet access to students using our parking lot Wi-Fi.
A decision about athletics and activities will be made at a later date. Our priority in making this decision will be our ability to safely conduct these activities.
As we transition to remote learning, you may have questions that are not covered in this communication. I encourage you to reach out to your student’s building principal or central office.
Please keep in mind that we must all do our part to ensure that we are able to return and then remain in session. Adhering to CDC recommendations regarding social distancing, mask usage, and hygiene will allow us to attain our goals of returning to in-seat instruction. Please keep this guidance in mind as we move to remote learning.
In closing, we know that this transition provides challenges to our families and communities. We are making this decision with our students’ and staffs’ safety as our number one priority.
