Sturgeon R-V Schools

Elementary and Middle Schools

An Open Letter to Parents about Buddy Bags, Summer break is coming to an end, new shoes are ready for action, crayons still have points as do pencils and pens, paper and glue sticks are packed to go to new classrooms, the night noises are getting louder, and soon so will be the school hallways. As we have for the past nineteen years, Sturgeon Schools will again continue to offer our week-end Buddy Bag Program. This program is eligible to students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade. The program will resume Friday, September 6, 2019 and continue through May 2020 when the school year ends. Each Friday participants will bring home a bag full of kid-friendly foods nutritionally based and easy to prepare. The food content is provided by the Food Bank of North Central Missouri and supplemented by the generosity of Sturgeon Christian Church members.

Buddy Bag participation is based on a variety of indicators. These may include, but are not limited to: family income, parent absence on week-ends, parent work hours, nutritional need, food insecurity and by parent request. Participation in our Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunch program is not an indicator for automatic participation in the Buddy Bag Program. Additional information is available on request.

Parent/Guardian consent is required for Buddy Bag participation. Please notify Mary Wolf, R.N. Program Coordinator of your interest to enroll a student, or if you have questions. Nurse Mary can be reached at: mwolf@sturgeon.k12.mo.us or 573-687-2091. Her office is located in the Elementary Hallway, Room #121.

Together we look forward to healthy school year for all our students and their families.

Thank you, Mary Wolf, MSN, R.N. Buddy Bag Coordinator
