WHAT IS CURRICULUM MAPPING?
Curriculum mapping is the idea of "beginning with the end in mind & charting a course for the year".
Curriculum maps are valuable planning tools for teachers. Typically, annual curriculum maps are organized by month or marking period and provide an overview of:
the enduring understandings and goals (courses and concepts)
the standards-based essential skills (GLEs)
the methods of assessment that the teacher and students will be working on throughout the year (e.g., major writing assignments, projects, performances)
the major content resources
NOTE: The RED arrow indicates the parts we will address as a staff in upcoming curriculum meetings. The curriculum maps will also provide the administrators with documented plans for how the GLEs will be covered by each grade level, thus hopefully replacing the need for weekly lesson plans to be turned in. The last two bullets above will be addressed at a later date when the initial mapping has been completed. Now, on to samples of how to use Curiculum Maps....
